Does anyone have any tips/recipes for making biscuits?

I made biscuits yesterday and they turned out funny. They weren’t bad, but they had an odd texture; similar to shortbread. I want flaky biscuits. I think maybe I overworked the dough, but I kind of want to try a different recipe too. The recipe I used was:

1/2 c butter
2/3 c milk
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 c flour 

Any suggestions?

I bought the wrong size can of condensed milk. All these recipes call for 14 oz or 12 oz and I have 10 oz. Does anyone have a recipe/sub/modification? Anyone? D:
